“From the Cradle of Viticulture” — Georgian Wine in the French Spotlight!
Wine Cradle
We are thrilled to share that Pierre Desprat, one of the leading wine exporters to the French market, recently visited Georgia as part of a broader mission to explore the origins and authenticity of qvevri winemaking — an ancient Georgian method now catching the attention of the global wine industry.
His visit, facilitated by Food Alliance, a member of CCIFG, has already made headlines in France. On July 8, the major regional daily La Montagne published a full feature on Georgia’s 8,000-year-old wine heritage, with Pierre Desprat at the heart of the story — discovering, tasting, and even acquiring traditional 1,500-liter kvevris to produce a special cuvée in France.
This cross-cultural journey between Auvergne and Kakheti is not only symbolic — it’s a concrete example of the growing Franco-Georgian collaboration in viticulture. As Desprat himself said:
“I fell in love with Georgian wines and the passion of their winemakers. This is just the beginning.”
